The unit applies to selecting patterns that have been developed from a hat block, following specifications, placing patterns on the materials and fabrications, cutting out and making the millinery.
The unit applies to situations where the cutting and making of the millinery item will be from a set of patterns that have been developed for a one-off item of model millinery. The patterns have been developed by draping or applying a pattern-making medium to a hat block, then designing the pattern pieces directly onto the three-dimensional crown or brim blocks. The patterns will have been developed in the pre-requisite unit LMTML3001A Make flat patterns from hat blocks. The marker may be developed directly on the fabric lay if continuous flat millinery material is to be used; or planned separately and applied to the relevant millinery materials and fabrications.
Work may be conducted in small to large scale enterprises and may involve individual and team-related activities.
The application of this unit is according to OHS practices of the enterprise and workplace practices which may include:

oral, written and visual communication
quality practices including responsibility for maintenance of own work quality and contribution to quality improvement of team or section output

This unit requires the application of skills associated with planning and organising for safe and effective use millinery production technology and operations. This unit also requires an ability to interpret and communicate specifications, check the quality of outcomes and identify and address problems relating to own work, materials, fabrications or equipment.
This unit covers skills and knowledge required to place flat patterns derived from a hat block, onto millinery material, cut out and make the millinery.
